Building Permission submitted for The Other Space-BHP
The Other Space-BHP is the second phase of BalinHouseProjects, the project initiated by Eduardo Padilha in 2006 in a council estate in Borough, London.
The Other Space-BHP will be an independent platform for producing and exchanging information with local and international organizations in the South of London.
The new space, designed by Arrigoni Architects and located in Lilford Road in Brixton, aims to provide resident artists with a non-conventional environment for research and expression, through an area of 124 sqm. arranged over two levels. The building has been designed around a mature lime tree, that will mark the entrance and be a centre of life in the building. The design includes two bedrooms and a series of flexible areas for work, gatherings, and exhibitions involving the local and international creative community.
“Since 2006, under the name BalinHouseProjects, I have opened up my home to develop projects that discuss the intersection of the private domain and the public space. BHP became a platform that allowed me to extend my practice into curatorial collaborations, to delve into the complexity of this continuous process of becoming and a reflection that I’ve been exploring as an artist.”
